Born in Rio de Janeiro in 1946, Júlio Bressane is one of the key representatives of the Cinema Marginal movement and independent Brazilian filmmaking. He notably directed Tabu (1982), Brás Cubas (1985), Sermões - A História de Antônio Vieira (1989), Cleópatra (2007), Sentimental Education, which screened in Locarno in 2013, Garoto (2015) and Beduino (2016).
